"After losing 170 pounds, I can finally sit comfortably."
When I came into FA, I weighed 330 pounds and waddled like a duck and sat on a chair at the back of the room with my legs apart and my arms spread out. My arms could not touch my sides because of the rolls of fat. The fat between my legs, and the fatty apron that hung over my belt and extended to my knees, were not only physically disabling but emotionally overwhelming.
It is five years later and I have lost 170 pounds. I can sit comfortably in meetings now.
"I lost 122 pounds in one year."
I hated living as a fat man, but I had given up hope. I had tried many diets, with some successes, only to rebound higher every time. I was drinking multiple fatty, sugary drinks every day, and I could not stop my intense cravings. I was 295 pounds and gaining.
By the end of one month in FA, my legs were swimming in my trousers and my fellows said they could see my face thinning. Another month later, I was able to genuflect at church and did not have to hold the pew to stand up.
I lost 122 pounds in a single year. I am looking for miracles now because I know they can happen to me.
"I lost 175 pounds and stopped fighting with my family."
I was extremely overweight from a very early age. My top weight was 306 pounds. I was full of fear, doubt, and insecurity and didn’t even know it. I spent a lot of my time being bossy and rude to my friends, family members, and strangers. I figured everyone was going to judge me by my appearance, so I might as well protect myself.
When I started FA, I was angry. But the funny thing that happened when I came into FA was that as my weight started to melt off, my heart started to thaw.
I have been in this FA program of recovery for three-and-a-half years now and have lost 175 pounds. I have begun to mend relationships with family and friends. When I started this program, my son was 12, and we never spent any time together. He is now 16, and I can’t get rid of him!
"130 extra pounds were keeping me from living life."
Before I “came to” in FA, I was a walking zombie. I was living to eat. I would pray that I wouldn’t wake up in the morning, because I just could not face another day.
I never in a million years thought that I would be walking through so many changes in my life. I never thought that I would be relieved of the 130 pounds that were keeping me from living life. Above all, I never thought that I’d be writing about it more than three-and-a-half years later, still standing, and still thin.
FA has given me the courage to leave a life that was no longer working for me.
