World Service Business Convention (WSBC) 2023

June 2 - 4, 2023 — Danvers, Massachusetts

Attend the Business Convention

The purpose of FA's annual World Service Business Convention (WSBC), as dictated by our bylaws, is to bring World Service Conference (WSC) members of individual meetings together as a representative body to govern the corporate entity of FA. The focus will be on World Service Inc. (WSI) business and service at the organizational level. All are welcome to attend.

Convention Registration Information

Online registration fee (by April 30): $45
On-site registration (after April 30): $55

Note you will not be allowed to change your meal plan after you have paid/registered. You may include one non-FA guest as a part of your registrations. The same meal plan options are available for guests, but they do not need to pay the registration fee. If you have an FA guest, they must register separately with their own login information.

Register as a World Service Conference Member

Deadline: March 3

Meetings should elect a World Service Conference (WSC) member at their December or January business meeting. In order to serve as a WSC member, a member of the fellowship must have at least five (5) years of continuous abstinence in FA and have completed one (1) in-depth study of the Twelve Steps in sequence as of March 2, 2023, using a method focused on food addiction and requiring abstinence throughout each Step, within the current term of abstinence.  If you’re interested in serving as a WSC member, please read Document 7: Service Positions-Description of Responsibilities and the World Service Conference (WSC) Member Manual.

FA meetings should not set aside funds to send WSC members to the Convention. If your meeting is collecting money for this purpose, please read Document 8: From a Traditions Perspective for WSI’s position regarding this practice.

A limited amount of needs-based, partial financial aid is available for WSC members who qualify. The application and other information is available by contacting your respective Intergroup:

Meal Plan

Members may choose to purchase the hotel food plan which starts with Friday dinner and ends with lunch on Sunday. If you are planning to arrive past 7:00pm on Friday, June 2, please arrange for your own meal, as the hotel will not serve latecomers. Members who choose not to buy the food plan are welcome to bring their own food and eat in the hospitality suites provided by the hotel.

Refund Policy

Refunds will be made on registration and meal plan fees if requested by email to the FA World Service Office (fa@foodaddicts.org) by April 30. We will require you to agree not to dispute the Convention charge with your credit card company for any reason, and to contact the FA World Service Office by email for resolution.

The Forum on Friday, June 2 from 1:00pm — 4:00pm

The Forum provides an opportunity to share what has worked in reaching the newcomer, starting and maintaining healthy meetings, and maintaining our own recovery from food addiction.

Past break-out session topics have included "Growing To Love Your FA Tools," "The Frontier: Giving and Getting Support," "The Traditions Up Close and Personal," and "What Makes a Meeting GREAT."

There is no additional charge for The Forum, but to attend you must register for the Business Convention. For questions, please contact forumplanning@foodaddicts.org

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel

50 Ferncroft Road, Danvers, MA 01923

The FA rate for hotel rooms at the convention hotel is $155 per night. Hotel reservations are not included in your FA Convention reservation. You must book your room separately.

The FA rate is applicable until our room block sells out and applies to the following dates: June 1 through June 5.

Rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please book only one room. Booking multiple rooms lowers the number of available rooms allotted for FA members and prevents them from taking advantage of the reduced FA rate.

Mini-refrigerators are available for rental on a first-come, first-serve basis. A limited number of larger refrigerators will be available in the hotel Hospitality Suite throughout the weekend.

Please cancel your room reservation at the DoubleTree by Hilton or Comfort Inn directly with the hotel — the FA Office does not handle room cancellations.

Ride and Lodging Sharing List

FA has created an online Ride and Lodging Sharing List where members can indicate if they need or can offer to share a ride or provide or share lodging. To submit a request, change your submission, or to view member responses, click on Ride and Lodging Sharing List.

Submit a Motion

Deadline: March 3

As determined at the 2008 WSBC, motions can be submitted by Intergroups, Chapters, WSI Committees, or the WSI Board. Groups that would like to submit a motion should review the WSBC Motion Submission Procedure document.

Apply for a WSI Board Officer or Committee Chair Position

Deadline: March 3

The following positions are open for election: Secretary, Treasurer, Literature, Public Information, Service Group Support, and 12th Step.  Before applying, please review the WSI Officer and Committee Chair Position Responsibilities
