Welcome To Western Area Intergroup

The purpose of Western Area Intergroup is to further the FA program in accordance with the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of FA, to maintain a communication center for FA groups, to provide unity for FA groups, and to educate the public about the FA program. All FA members are welcome to attend Intergroup meetings. Whether or not members live within traveling distance to Intergroup, there are many ways to do service.

Examples include supporting public information outreach to doctors and members of the clergy, keeping meetings updated about opportunities to serve at health fairs, informing the media about FA meetings in their areas, and many others.

WAI serves meetings in California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Australia, western Canada, and New Zealand. Approximately 240 meetings are registered with WAI and listed on the FA website.

WAI meets monthly on the second Sunday from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon at Summit Medical Center’s Samuel Merritt College of Nursing Health Education Center, 400 Hawthorne Avenue, Oakland, California. Click on the following link for directions map

There are four main committees:

Members meet in separate committees for the first segment of Intergroup. Public Information (PI) and 12th Step Committees periodically break off into several sub-committees to report on progress and plan different approaches to outreach to both existing FA members (12th Step Committees) and to the food addict who still suffers (PI).

At 11:10 am, everyone gathers as a general group to hear board and committee chair reports. At this time, members may volunteer to be listed on the monthly “Available Sponsor List”, and hear of health fairs in need of volunteers, and other service opportunities.
