Welcome To Western Area Intergroup

The purpose of Western Area Intergroup is to further the FA program in accordance with the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of FA, to maintain a communication center for FA groups, to provide unity for FA groups, and to educate the public about the FA program. All FA members are welcome to come to the Intergroup meetings. Many FA members live within a few hours of Intergroup meetings and regularly do service on a Committee.

Other FA members serve in their local area in other ways: supporting public information outreach, being an Intergroup Contact Person keeping their meeting informed about Intergroup and opportunities for service, by connecting with publications to announce local FA meetings, or by following up on information request for their area that are sent to the Committees.

Approximately 220 meetings are registered with WAI and are listed and updated monthly in the WAI Meeting Directory.

WAI serves meetings in California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Australia, Western Canada, and New Zealand.

WAI meets monthly on the second Sundays of the month from 10:30 am to 12 noon at Summit Medical Center’s Samuel Merritt College of Nursing Health Education Center, 400 Hawthorne Avenue, Oakland, California.

The average attendance is 270 members.

There are four main committees:

Members meet in separate committees for the first segment of Intergroup. Public Information and 12th Step committees periodically break off into several sub-committees to report and move projects along.

At 11:10 am all gather as a general group to hear board and committee chair reports, ask for available sponsors, volunteer for health fairs, and share other service opportunities.
